We met some unbelievably amazing kids on our one-month NEGU for Kids California Tour. All of the kids we spent time with in the hospitals were so courageous and so incredibly strong. One of these amazing kiddos was 10 year old Garrett at UC Davis Children’s Hospital.
Garrett is 10 years old and currently fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Garrett has shown such courage and strength in battling cancer. He really never gives up. Garrett’s spirit and fight to beat leukemia is an inspiration to many people in his community. Garrett’s positive spirit and bright smile caught the attention of our National Spokesperson, Kaitlin Sandeno while she was delivering JoyJars to kids at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Kaitlin is a 4-time Olympic swimmer and Garrett is also an excellent swimmer, so the two had a lot in common and Garrett even got to try on Kaitlin’s Olympic medals!
Along with swimming, Garrett also loves football and baseball. Garrett is looking forward to going back to school and resuming all of this favorite activities. This summer has been somewhat difficult for Garrett with multiple hospital stays and chemotherapy treatments that make him tired and sick.
Even though the trips to the hospital are hard for Garrett, he presses on with courage in strength and encourages other kids to do the same. Garrett’s mom tells us that “he has a little buddy at the infusion room that needed some of Garrett’s courage before he got his port. Garrett told him that the best part about having a port is that he can still go swimming. I guess it was convincing because his friend decided to get the port and has told Garrett how much he loves swimming. Garrett never gives up and plans to kick Leukemia’s butt and help other kids when he is feeling better”.
Please join us in sending Garrett lots of notes of encouragement and joy! You can visit Garrett on Facebook at Pray for Garrett. We NEGU for Garrett!
