In the day and age where social media is constantly used, Sam Darnold, the New York Jets Quarterback could care less about tweeting or instagramming. 21-year-old Darnold told New York Daily News, “I do NOT have a Twitter account. I don’t have a burner account, either.”
Even without a twitter account, he stays up to date and socially aware of what is going on. He says, “I like to be socially aware,” Darnold tells New York Daily News, “I know what’s going on if there’s a funny meme about me or whatever (see: preseason synchronized hair slick with McCown). I’m aware of it, but I’m not on Twitter looking up my name and searching for anything… But I’m not going to lie. In the offseason, sometimes I’ll go on Google and see if anything’s up about me, if anything’s being said about me. I feel like it’s important to be aware… be aware of what the media is saying about you, what’s going on,” Darnold said. “I feel like it is important, but at the same time, I’m not going to sit on Twitter, because I feel like that’s just kind of almost a waste of time.”
Although he doesn’t have a twitter, Sam Darnold does have an official instagram account, where he shares some of his passions in life and in football with his more than 160,000 followers. Most recently, Darnold posted a picture with a Courageous Kid fighting cancer before the Jets final preseason game to show support for the Jessie Rees Foundation during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Sam Darnold is using his platform for good, spreading about Jessie’s NEVER EVER GIVE UP message and spending time with Courageous Kids fighting cancer.
Way to go, Sam! We’re thankful to have you as a NEGU All Star!
