3-year-old Leighton is a Warrior Princess Courageous Kid who is battling cancer with a smile on her face. She was playing like a regular little girl when she developed a fever of 103 degrees. Her family gave her children Tylenol every 4 hours for 72 hours but the fever persisted. They then took her to the hospital on March 3 and found out she had stage 4 Neuroblastoma. She has a tumor above her kidney and one in her neck that they later found were connected as one. Leighton’s first round of Chemo started March 6 and seemed to go well, although it was hard on her. Five more rounds of chemo will happen over the next 5-6 months.
Before all of this, she was a very happy girl that loved to spend time playing with her little sister Hazel and her puppy Hetfield. Thoughtfulness and caring for others is in Leighton’s genes, she displays this on an ongoing basis, she loves surprises and tickle fights and always enjoys a good back scratch before going to sleep. Most of her summer is spent at the lake swimming, hiking around, playing with her lake toys and “driving” the boat around the lake with her family.
To Leighton and her family, NEGU means “To fight for what we want in life. We all want love, love IS life, so we will all fight for our love with everything we can. We will celebrate every win and push through all things negative. Through struggle comes great love and precious moments that otherwise would not have existed to such a degree. It will skin our senses making us sharp, diligent, determined, and focused on exactly what we all need to do. We will never EVER give up on Leighton, family, life or love.” Her family says about the Jessie Rees Foundation, “Support is always welcome in these tough times and Foundation like this are just the spice we as a family need to energize us when we feel like gravity is increasing. We are really looking forward to the JoyJar and are thankful the Jessie Rees Foundation exists to provide us and many others with help and hope. Thank you from our Warrior Princess and her Care Crusaders!”
