We have also been able to give over $3M in financial support to families during the holidays.
To ensure the mission of the Jessie Rees Foundation continues today and in years to come, please use the chart below to discover ways to maximize the current value of your gift, and the future legacy of your estate.
CHARITABLE GIFTS
Ways to give that impact kids fighting cancer Today!
CASH GIFT
A single cash gift to JRF to help support the mission today.
BENEFITS TO YOU
Your gift is made simply and quickly. You receive a charitable deduction. You provide immediate support to the mission of JRF.
HOW IT WORKS
You transfer cash to JRF—via a check through the mail or online by debit or credit card. JRF can put your gift to immediate use or add it to an endowed fund if you so specify.
DONOR ADVISED FUND
A Donor Advised Fund, or DAF, is like a special charitable saving account that you establish with the help of your financial advisor. There can be significant tax savings on donations of appreciated stock which you should discuss with your advisor.
BENEFITS TO YOU
Easy to administer and you make grants to JRF as you desire. You receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for the deposit to the DAF, including the appreciated value of the stock and you can invest the assets in your DAF for future growth, while donating at any time to the JRF. Offers privacy to the public of your charitable history.
HOW IT WORKS
You make an initial and subsequent tax deductible deposit to your DAF and then you decide who to donate to, when to donate to them and how much to donate.
IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER
If you are 72 ½ or older, you can use your required annual minimum distributions to give to the mission of JRF from your IRA.
BENEFITS TO YOU
Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to JRF. May satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts. Help further the work and mission of JRF.
HOW IT WORKS
Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to JRF. Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to JRF to help continue our mission. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
GIFT APPRECIATED STOCKS & ASSETS
Appreciated stock (aka: securities) are those stocks that are worth more today than when they were acquired.
BENEFITS TO YOU
You support the mission of JRF while not having to pay taxes on gains and the income tax deduction is equal to the current FMV of the securities.
HOW IT WORKS
When the market has a favorable performance, you gift appreciated shares of common stock in companies or units of mutual funds directly to the JRF with the help of your financial advisor.

PLANNED GIVING
Ways to leave a legacy gift that provides future support and encouragement to kids fighting cancer.
CHARITABLE BEQUEST – WILL OR TRUST
A gift in a will or living trust, known as a charitable bequest, is the easiest way for you to support our mission and make a lasting statement about what matters most to you without giving up your assets today.
BENEFITS TO YOU
You may change your estate or trust designation at any time. Your bequest or trust designation will not be subject to any potential federal estate tax. You provide future support to JRF.
HOW IT WORKS
You can designate a % of, or a dollar amount of your Estate, Will or Trust to JRF. Your gracious gift is paid out at the end of life to keep joy flowing to kids fighting cancer. Sample language to have your estate attorney add to your will – I give to the Jessie Rees Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, Tax ID 45-1836440, headquartered in Irvine, California, the sum of $ (or % of my estate) for its general purposes.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST (CRT)
You may be concerned about the high cost of capital gains tax with the sale of an appreciated asset. Perhaps you recently sold property and are looking for a way to save on taxes this year and plan for retirement. A charitable remainder unitrust might offer the solutions you need!
BENEFITS TO YOU
You get to avoid capital gains on the sale of your appreciated assets. You receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for the charitable portion of the trust. You can establish a future legacy gift to JRF.
HOW IT WORKS
With the help of your estate plan attorney, you transfer cash or assets to fund your charitable remainder unitrust. In the case of a trust funded with appreciated assets, the trust will then sell the assets tax-free.The trust is invested to pay income to you or pay out charitable donations to JRF that you designate.
CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST (CLT)
A charitable lead trust is an irrevocable trust designed to provide financial support to JRF for a period of time, with the remaining assets eventually going to family members or other beneficiaries. Charitable lead trusts are often considered to be the inverse of a charitable remainder trust.
BENEFITS TO YOU
Receive a gift or estate tax charitable deduction. Pass inheritance on to family at a reduced or zero cost. Establish a vehicle from which you can make annual gifts to support kids fighting cancer.
HOW IT WORKS
You work with your estate plan attorney to create a CLT and gift cash or appreciated assets to it. You then make
annual contributions to support JRF as you desire. The remaining assets at the end of the trust term are distributed to the named beneficiaries.
LIFE INSURANCE BENEFICIARY
When the time comes that the original goal of your life insurance policy is no longer needed—such as supporting children now grown or providing financial security for a loved one—your policy can become a great and easy way to support kids fighting cancer.
BENEFITS TO YOU
You get to know that your years of having life insurance will outlive your life and leave a legacy. Your life insurance proceeds that are gifted to JRF avoid both income and estate taxation.
HOW IT WORKS
You decide to name JRF as the beneficiary. You then contact your plan administrator for a change-of-beneficiary form. You determine what percentage (1 to 100) you would like to gift to JRF to support our mission on the form. You send a copy of the form to our offices, which are filed confidentially.

OUR FOREVER INSPIRATION
The Jessie Rees Foundation was, and always will be, inspired by one courageous and compassionate 12 year old little girl. Her name, Jessica Joy Rees, better known as “Jessie”. Jessie was a faith-filled, beautiful, athletic, caring and loving girl who courageously fought cancer (DIPG) from March 3, 2011 to January 5, 2012. She loved her family very much and her puppy Mr. Moe. She created JoyJars® and was the first one to coin the term “NEGU®”, which was her motto and message to everyone. Jessie had one “wish”, which is the mission of her foundation.
