OMAHA – It started in March 2011 when 12-year-old Jessie Rees was diagnosed with cancer. Now it is a nationwide movement to make sure kids with cancer never ever give up.

They are called JoyJars and are packed with small presents, tailored to age and gender. Former Olympian Kaitlin Sandeno helped hand JoyJars to young patients at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha on Thursday.

It is part of Jessie Rees’ legacy.

Kaitlin Sandeno says, “Her goal was every single child fighting cancer gets a JoyJar, so roughly 250,000 JoyJars is the goal and about a month ago we finished out our 10,000th JoyJar so we have some to go.” There are over 250,000 kids across the world fighting cancer.

Kaitlin also brought along her three Olympic medals she received in Athens during the 2004 games, bronze, silver and gold and no there is no chocolate inside the gold medal.
