To mark September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, “The Simplest JOYS” is a collection of digital portraitures of 20 children who chose to see the simplest joys during their fight with cancer. Through the hardest battle of their lives, these Courageous Kids, like Jessie, chose to celebrate the good days with family and friends, giggle, dance, and encourage other kids.

Artist Diana Mordin has made it her mission to raise awareness of childhood cancer. She created Jessie Rees’ portrait one week after the 12 year-old Jessie’s diagnosis. Since then, Diana has created more than 50 digital portraits of children whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

Diana says, “Since graduating Cal State Long Beach, my work has been focused on raising awareness for childhood cancer. For more than three years now, I have made it my mission to be one of the voices for these amazing children, working with the Jessie Rees Foundation and other local childhood cancer foundations.”

On Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the John & Linda Friend Art Gallery, Grimm Hall at Concordia University will be hosting an artist reception for Diana Mordin.

We love hearing about ways people are spreading Jessie’s JOY!!! And we can’t wait to see the 50 portraits on September 16!
