We could not fulfill Jessie’s mission without the help of incredible volunteers around the nation. Check out this story on one of our incredible volunteers that is helping us spread joy!
Question: How did you first hear about Jessie and her story?
Answer: I first heard about Jessie and JoyJars when I was attending Concordia University, Irvine and my leadership group volunteered here a few years ago. Then, during my Master’s program, I had the opportunity to obtain an internship and I was giving the opportunity to intern at the Jessie Rees Foundation.
Q: What duties have you had while volunteering at the Jessie Rees Foundation?
A: While at the foundation I’ve had the chance to meet, interview, and write about Courageous Kids, volunteers, and events that have taken place. I’ve also loved assisting Kristy in the JoyFactory when large groups come in to volunteer and helping Cory with all of his travel plans.
Q: What is the most memorable jar that you have stuffed in a JoyJar?
The most memorable jar that I’ve stuffed was for a little girl, who was celebrating her 3rd birthday! She loved pink, princesses, and arts & crafts…which are all things I love! I felt that I stuffed a JoyJar that I would have loved when I was three, and I hope she loved it too!
Q: If you could choose a crayon color to describe yourself, what would it be?
A: I would definitely choose Pink! It’s not only my favorite color, but it also brightens a room and practically makes any little girl happy!
Q: If you were on an island, & could only bring 3 items, what would they be?
A: A camera, sunscreen, and my ipad, so I could watch Netflix.
Q: What’s a favorite memory of yours while volunteering at the foundation?
A: My favorite memory was when Mateo, one of our Courageous Kids, came to visit the JoyFactory. Mateo was the first Courageous Kid that I met at the Jessie Rees Foundation, so he’ll always have a special place in my heart. His family was so inspiring and I’m truly blessed to have met them. I now stay updated through their Instagram and Facebook @teammateo.
Q: If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
A: I would want to be able to Time Travel, that way I would be able to see family and friends that live further more often.
Q: Would you rather… Never shower again OR Never brush your teeth again?
A: Definitely, never brush my teeth again! My hair would look horendous without a shower 🙂
