MLB Head Coach Hosts 8th Annual NEGU Baseball Skills Camp
January 16, 2023
Skip Schumaker is a two-time World Series Champion and the new Head Coach of the Miami Marlins. As an MLB player, he played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds. Skip has been a dedicated supporter of the mission of the Jessie Rees Foundation for many years.
Skip heard about Jessie’s story through his friend and NEGU All-Star, Nick Punto and became a NEGU All-Star soon after that. Each member of the NEGU All-Star team uses their platform and influence to share Jessie’s NEGU message and support Courageous Kids fighting cancer. Skip has taken his commitment to being a NEGU All-Star a step further with the organization of a baseball skills camp for young athletes that benefits Jessie’s wish to help every kid fighting cancer Never Ever Give Up!
This was Skip’s 8th year hosting his NEGU Baseball Skills Camp for 11 to 15 year old baseball players, who had the amazing opportunity to learn from professional athletes and coaches. They also learned about the Jessie Rees Foundation and how important it is to give back to your community.
Held at Saddleback college, the skills camp featured 50 athletes and 15 coaches including former MLB player and NEGU AllStar Nick Punto, Saddleback College Baseball Coach Sommer McCartney and other special guests. The annual camp generated over $17,000 for kids fighting cancer! WOW!
Skip’s talent and generous heart for others provide a great role model for all the incredible young athletes in attendance.
Thank you to Skip Schumaker and family for your continued support of our mission to help Courageous Kids fight cancer Never Ever Give Up!
