We could not fulfill Jessie’s mission without the help of incredible volunteers around the nation. Check out this story on one of our incredible volunteers that is helping us spread joy!

Question: How did you first hear about Jessie and her story?

Answer: I heard about Jessie when I was an intern at Saddleback church, in Lake Forest. During my time there I heard about what she was doing and I actually got the pleasure to meet Jessie. Then my friend Cory, a Regional Coordinator at the Jessie Rees Foundation, got involved and through him I began to be more involved as well.

makennaQ: What duties have you had while volunteering at the Jessie Rees Foundation?

A: I’ve handled the duties of processing shipments, sorting toys in the Joy Factory, stuffing JoyJars, and stuffing individual Birthday JoyJars for Courageous Kids.

Q: What is the most memorable toy that you have stuffed in a Joy Jar?

A:The most memorable toy would have to be a wand. It was for a little girl who loved princesses and the color pink, basically everything I love. I found this little silver wand and it had a sparkly star at the top of it and I said, “I would love to get that in my                                                               JoyJar, so I hope she loves it.”

Q: If you could choose a crayon color to describe yourself, what would it be?

A: Tickle Me Pink, because it’s bright and happy!

Q: If you were on an island, could only bring 3 items, what would they be?

A: A water bottle, a nice dress that I could wear at all times, and a little lunch pack with some snacks.

Q: What’s a favorite memory of yours while volunteering at the foundation?

A: One of the first times I ever volunteered at the Jessie Rees Foundation, they had me paint some globes for the annual golf tournament. When I later went and volunteered at the golf tournament being able to see the globes all lit up on the center of tables was really awesome to see!

Q: If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?

A: I would definitely want to fly! Maybe even morphing, like shape-shifting, because then I could be anything!

Q: Would you rather (Jessie’s favorite type of question)… Never shower again OR Never brush your teeth again?

A: Never brush your teeth again, because I can always chew gum.
