Mason was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer on June 3, 2015.  The tumors have caused him a lot of physical disabilities, he is currently paralyzed from his chest down, but Mentally, he is not changed. Mason still has his dynamic personality and high intelligence.  Because of these changes, it has forced Mason to grow up fast and become wise beyond his years.  His mom Nicolle, who is also battling cancer, says she is constantly humbled by his optimism and ability to fight strong for so long. She says he inspires her to push through some really difficult treatments.

Mason has a 12 year old sister, Madisen that has been greatly affected by watching her mom and brother battle cancer – something they can’t shield her from and that has become a huge part of her childhood.  Nicolle says, “It is painful what she has lost but she has gained an appreciation for her family and has been a constant care-giver to her brother. Our family has done a lot of traveling for medical appointments.  We have been going out to Houston, TX for the last 26 months.  Recently, Mason was the first pediatric patient accepted in a CAR T cell trial in Duarte, CA.  We excited, nervous, and ready for this new trial.”

Mason loves comic books and his favorite is IronMan. He has been given the nickname IronMAsoN!  Mason is an artist and even with his new disabilities he still has some amazing skills.  Before cancer, Mason ran track and now his dad or uncle will run 10Ks with him with a hand pedaled bike that helps keep him out exercising! In his spare time, Mason loves to Pokémon hunt and hang out with friends cousins – Even with his new physical changes, he finds ways to NEVER EVER GIVE UP and still have the same hobbies and fun as he used to.
