Giovanny was admitted to the hospital on January 14, 2017. Before finding out about the diagnosis of Leukemia, 7-year-old “Gio” suffered multiple strokes, had a heart attack and was in PICU for 10 days. His mom Jessica said, “eight specialists were checking him and every single one of them said they had never seen a case like Gio’s. We got to the hospital with 130,000 white blood cells and 100,000 of those were Eosinophils which is what caused the multiple strokes and heart attack. After getting out from PICU they send us the the rehab floor for his therapies since he could move a lot specially his left side’s since they were the most affected. On February 8, 2017 our lives changed for ever. They told us our son had Leukemia, I felt like dying in that moment.”
Gio began his first Chemo on February 10, 2017 but there was a little problem with his Chemos. Gio would not be able to get a certain Chemo drug because it could affect his heart condition. He did pretty good during his induction treatment and did amazing with his therapies even though he slowed down because of the Chemo, his family knew they had to fight against that. Gio is now done with the induction treatment and the oncologist told them that the Chemos are actually working! He had 8% of cancerous cell and after the first month of induction he now only has 1.14% of cancerous cells. He’s starting to loose his hair and sees a little weak at times. Jessica says, “We god a long road ahead of us but with God by our side we will have full victory.”
Gio is a true warrior! He always has a smile on his face that can brighten your day and we are so proud of him!
