Pediatric cancer patients, their family members, medical professionals and cancer researchers spoke at a Capitol Rally in Pennsylvania to urge state lawmakers to ramp up funding for childhood cancer research.
The proposals would raise funding for pediatric cancer research by:
- Selling a special license plate through PennDOT.
- Adding a check box to the state income-tax return form for filers to donate $5 or more.
- Offering $100 million in tax credits over 10 years to businesses that contribute to research institutions.
The funding generated through the bills would be split among four Pennsylvania institutions that conduct pediatric cancer research: The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Cancer Center; Penn State Hershey Pediatric Hematology/Oncology; Abramson Cancer Center, the University of Pennsylvania; and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
