TeamNEGU Blog

Meet our fun loving NEGU fighter Austin! Austin is  2 yr old and is courageously fighting high risk Courageous Cancer Fighterstage 4 neuroblastoma. Austin and his mom tell us, “We will continue to fight hard and strong, never giving up until we conquer this beast”.

He loves Disney and can accurately name every character! He also enjoys singing and dancing preferably to Michael Jackson. “He is such a funny little boy with such a personality that grabs so many people”-Austin’s mom.  He is very opinionated and persuasive. He will have you convinced upon meeting him that is actually 4 years old, not 2.

Austin mom tells that while he is still too young to know or have a hero, “Austin is my hero and my inspiration and when he’s old enough to understand that meaning I will tell him everyday I can”.

“Austin has endured so much in the last 9 months.  We had a very rough beginning. After the initial biopsy of the abdominal tumor, Austin developed conpartmental syndrome. This made breathing very hard for Austin so they decided to put him on a ventilator in the PICU. We spent a month there hoping and praying that Austin would get the strength to recover. After pursuing the doctors for a ct scan we found that Austin was retaining fluids and would need to have a drain inserted. After doing this they pulled 2.5 liters of unnecessary blood from his abdomen. Austin pulled through with flying colors despite complications of almost loosing him twice. Austin completed 6.5 cycles of chemotherapy, 2 painful bone aspirations, 4 surgeries to place and replace a broviac catheter, a stem cell retrieval, and just completed a transplant. Our next step is to start radiation then immunotherapy. We have come so far since last July.

We have met many organizations that have sent care packages which made Austin smile during rough times. One of them being the Jessie Rees Foundation where it showed all of us that the world was NEGU!!!”- Austin’s mom.

WE NEGU FOR AUSTIN!
