The Jessie Rees Foundation, in partnership with Ava’s Kitchen, hosts a heartwarming ‘FAMtastic’ celebration each year, designed to bring Courageous Families together in Orange County, CA for an afternoon of joy, laughter, and connection. Families with a child fighting cancer were treated this year to a much-needed break from their daily challenges, gathering in a space filled with activities, including face painting, balloon hats, and a lively dance party.
FAMtastic has blossomed into an event that more than 60 Courageous Families fighting cancer attend. One family drives all the way from Utah each year. It is their favorite event!
Bonding, laughter, music, and conversations filled the air as children and parents alike embraced the fun and the opportunity to make new friends. The beautiful thing that has come from FAMtastic is the bonding—families battling similar struggles are able to connect and not feel so alone and isolated during their journeys, making friends for life.
One Courageous Mom said, “From a horrible, horrible time in our lives, they have put a smile on our faces every single time and on our kids’ faces. The things that they are doing are changing lives, and it’s amazing to be a part of.”
This celebration creates unforgettable memories for families who face extraordinary challenges. For a few precious hours, the burden was lifted, and smiles took center stage. It was a true testament to the power of community, support, and shared moments of happiness.
