Deb Fischer, Senator for Nebraska, stood before the United States Senate this week to
present a resolution designating September 26, 2013 as National Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day. In her floor remarks, Fischer talks about childhood as a time of growing, learning and playing. But for too many children, Fischer notes, childhood is very different as they fight for their lives against pediatric cancers and other serious illnesses. Fischer presented to the Senate an inspirational story of a dear friend of hers, 7 year old Jack Hoffman, a courageous fighter and her hero. For a transcript of her full remarks visit here.
In an attempt to promote more awareness for childhood cancers, including pediatric brain cancer, encourage efforts for early diagnosis and to advocate for a cure, Senator Fischer and Senator Klobuchar asked for the designation of September 26th, 2013 as National Childhood Brain Cancer Awareness Day. According to Congressional Records–the United States Senate has agreed—September 26, 2013 is now officially known as National Brain Cancer Awareness Day!!
A very big thank you to courageous fighter Jack Hoffman and his family for bringing much needed awareness for childhood cancers, including pediatric brain cancer and to Senator Fischer and Senator Klobuchar for advocating for the thousands of children fighting cancer today. WE NEGU FOR YOU!
