Volunteer Spotlight
June 17th, 2022
Our NEGU volunteer spotlight this month is Jackie Lembesis, who has been volunteering with us since last fall. She lives in Yorba Linda and is attending school to be a Child Life Specialist. Jackie is very creative and loves to paint, draw and bake. In fact, she is in the process of writing a children’s book that will empower kids who have PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal infections).
When asked how she got involved with the foundation, she answered, “I had wanted to volunteer with JRF for a long time because I have seen the positive impact of JoyJars in my friends’ lives and I wanted to help bring that joy to other kids and families, too.”
Her favorite thing to do when volunteering is making personalized JoyJars. “It is so much fun choosing items that the kids would love and making them fit inside the jar. I love trying to make it so something pops out of the jar when a child opens it.” Jackie always enjoys her time at the JoyFactory, and has fun each time she is here. However, her favorite experience was taking care of the NEGU puppy that was auctioned off at this year’s NEGU Gala. Sitting in the pen with Max and snuggling with him was extra special for Jackie!
Next time you get a chance to volunteer with Jackie, be sure to notice her shoes! She always has a fun pair of sneakers on and is well known for her collection of silly shoes! We are so glad you and your fun attitude have chosen to give of your time and heart to kids fighting cancer!
