On May 7, 2018 Niko was brought to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for irregular blood work taken at an orthopedic appointment because he was starting to limp. Shortly after, he was admitted to the hospital and needed an emergency blood transfusion and a bone marrow biopsy and a spinal tap which showed that he had B-ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Three-year-old Niko loves the outdoors, dinosaurs, planes, trains, cars, minions, and paw patrol. His favorite movie right now is Ferdinand!

Niko shows his family his bravery and a new way of life everyday. He goes through all of his medical needs like a champ and being sick doesn’t phase who he is. His mom says that the Jessie Rees Foundation “is so amazing. It saddens me that the base is due to a loss of a child. Jessie and her family have created an amazing foundation helping all the rest of us thrive. I thank you for this.” When Niko gets one of Jessie’s JoyJars® full of toys in the mail, he “loves them every time he gets one, it’s like Christmas.”

Niko’s family was one of the recipients of the 25 Days of Love in December of 2018. His mom said, “They support us through the darkest times and saved us at the end of the year when they sent us funds to help pay our bills and get the kids Xmas gifts. My husband was out of work for a month. It was so helpful.”
