JoyDrop: The Mirror!
One of the ways my wife and I try to encourage our kids to be responsible and proud of themselves is “the mirror”. We always say, “If at the end of the day, the end of a game, the end of a test…you can look yourself in the mirror and know you did your best than that is all we ask.”
I also know it’s not “what I say” that is most important to my kids…it’s “what they see in me”. So, I too have to live by the reflection in “the mirror” too. I wish I could say every time I look in the mirror I’m 100% happy with my performance that day. There are days that selfishness climbs to the top of my priority ladder, and causes me to realize that I could have done better that day. Those are the days that I have to make a choice…make excuses or face my faults and get better.
I’m not perfect and I try to let my kids know that the goal in life is not to be perfect. Rather, be committed to do YOUR best each and everyday you step away from the mirror and jump into the race of life. We aren’t called to run someone else’s race…but run our race the best we can.
How do you check yourself? Do you use “the mirror”? My hope and encouragement is that you too would find a way to run your race and give it your very best no matter the outcome. So take a look…then jump into the race today with a desire to be YOUR best. When you do…you will be super proud when you look in the mirror again.
Cheering for you!
